Every "Picture Frame" tells a story

To paraphrase Edgar Degas, the frame is the reward of the artist. What does that mean? Well if you are an artist or have had a few things framed, you quickly discover that a frame whether it is a simple or custom creation, transforms the object being framed. Framing gives the artwork a means to telegraph it’s message. Framing is the messenger and the art is the message.

One of my favorite things to do in our social media accounts, Instagram and Facebook is show the art with a selection of different frames. It is a fun way to experiment with different looks and it encourages the viewers to look outside the box. For example we recently purchase many antique herbarium prints from the 1920’s and photographed them with several framing options.

The gold frame with lambs tongue or Lily of the valley pattern echos many of organic patterns in nature, the gold tones elevate the presentation to a sophisticated level.

This frame has a earthy vintage charm, the colors and textures compliment the antique herbarium page.

This frame is almost a combination of the two frames above, leaf patterning, and vintage burl wood textures compliment the art without over powering it.

The final choice, there is no right or wrong pick, design what speaks to you and let it tell your story.
